A war at the limit of human possibilities, fought at altitudes and on terrain that required exceptional physical resistance and high climbing skills. Only real "eagles" were able to face war operations that transformed into battlefields the frozen gullies, the spires, the overhanging walls, the insidious snowfields, the sharp ridges of the Lagazuoi-Tofane group. The author recalls the drama of that tragic period of the strictly documented history of Italy, which concludes an in-depth historiographical research on the subject.
